Only in Piazza di Spagna can you see three distinct artistic monuments that can keep you enthralled for hours simply by looking at them.

The most famous attraction in Piazza di Spagna is the Spanish Steps.  This is a 137-step stairway leading to another majestic architecture, the Church of Trinita dei Monti.  At the bottom of the stairway, you can find the famous La Barcaccia Fountain.

A stroll to the Piazza di Spagna can be very rewarding because of these magnificent architectural gems.  Not only that, the Piazza is always bustling with activity so you can enjoy the company of local Romans as well as tourists visiting the place.

How to Get to Piazza di Spagna

Piazza di Spagna is right at heart of the historic district of the city of Rome.  You will not find it difficult to find this beautiful Roman Piazza.

You can take the Metro if you want to quickly get to the Piazza.  There is Metro station called Spagna which is just across the historic Piazza.

You can also take a public bus to get there.  Bus routes 116, 117, 119, and 5 will take you there.

What To Do When You Arrive at the Piazza di Spagna

There is no lack of activity at the Piazza.  When you arrive there, you can marvel at the beauty of the La Barcaccia Fountain.  The centerpiece of this fountain is an elegantly designed boat.  Water literally spouts from the cracks on the hull of this boat.

Not far away from the Fountain is the Memorial House dedicated to the famous poets Keats and Shelly.  You can also take a light snack and refreshments at the many cafes and bars that line the Piazza di Spagna.

You can now ascend the famous Spanish Steps.  Your stamina will be challenged by the 137-step journey to the top of the stairways.  The Spanish Steps exudes mystery and elegance.

You need not worry though if you get tired at the middle of your ascent.  The steps are wide enough so you can sit and relax and enjoy the beautiful urban view of Rome.

When you reach the summit of the Spanish Steps, don’t forget to look back.  The view below would be stunning and inspiring.

Just a few steps forward is the Church of Trinita dei Monti.  The church is gothic but it also has the elements of neo-classical art as well as ancient Egyptian art works.  You can also find the famous Via Veneto just a few steps away.

Go back down the Spanish Steps if you want to shop and dine at the Via Condotti which is a few meters away from the Piazza di Spagna.

You can also watch the annual Donne sotto le Stelle on the Piazza di Spagna.  The Spanish Steps serves as the stage for the famous Italian and international models participating in the annual show.

When in Rome, the first public park you must visit is the Piazza di Spagna.  The Piazza will be able to welcome you in a grand style.
