The main statue and central figure of the Fountain is Neptune. He stands tall and mighty among other figures of the Fountain.
You will notice that Neptune is riding a chariot made from giant sea shells. Two sea horses pull the chariot while Tritons guide the sea horses.
You can see the God of Wealth, Abundance, standing at the left side of Neptune. At the right side you will see Salubrity, the God of Health. The two statues stand proud beside the Lord of the Sea.
Don’t forget to look closely also at the bas relief depicting a virgin girl among the Roman soldiers during the time of Emperor Augustus. This scene represents a time in Roman history. The bas relief shows the girl pointing the source of water to the Roman soldiers.
It is not a coincidence to know that the Trevi Fountain is one of the catch basins of the magnificent Roman Aqueducts. The Fountain is the end point of the Aqua Virgo aqueduct.

The Trevi Fountain is famous for its coin tossing tradition. When you go to the site, don’t forget to bring several coins that you can throw at the fountain.
According to tradition, if you throw a coin at the Fountain you will surely return to Rome in some other time. If you throw two coins, a new romance can flourish. If you throw three coins, expect that you can get a successful marriage or a divorce if that’s what you are wishing for.
When you throw coins in the Trevi Fountain, make sure that your back is turned against it. You also have to hold the coin in your right hand and throw it over your left shoulder.
Aside from following tradition, you are also helping a charitable effort when you throw coins at the Fountain. Every day, the Trevi Fountain can accumulate almost $3,000. This is collected at night to subsidize the poor sections of Rome.
To get to the Trevi Fountain, you can take the Metro and get off at the Berberini Station. You will just walk a short distance to arrive at the Piazza Trevi.
